Story Time...
Once upon a time, there was a king named Hima who was much loved by the people of his kingdom for his governance. He had a beautiful son, but the astrologers had predicted that the prince would die on his sixteenth birthday due to a snake bite. King Hima was filled with grief on hearing this and as per the advice of a renowned astrologer got his son married to a girl with a lucky horoscope. The couple lived happily for a few years but eventually, the prince neared his sixteenth birthday and the king was worried sick about his son and the astrological predictions.
On the eve of his birthday, the King’s daughter-in-law hatched a plan to save her husband’s life. She gathered all her jewels a, piled them up in front of the main door, and advised the prince to stay awake the whole night. She too, sat awake the entire night and sat at the entrance of the home guarding the main door, singing beautiful melodious songs all night.
At the stroke of midnight, Lord Yama, the god of death arrived at their doorstep in the form of a serpent but was dazzled by the brilliant shine of the ornaments and could not see anything around them clearly. Meanwhile, the songs sung by the girl were so alluring that the snake stayed at the doorstep enjoying the songs. Finally, the time to take the prince’s life elapsed and Lord Yama had to give up his mission.
Thus, the girl saved her husband's life and they lived happily ever after.
